Spark Becomes Flame

The 2010 Paralympic Torch Relay will begin in Ottawa on March 3, 2010, three days after the Olympic Flame is extinguished. The announcement was made on June 25, and the steel blue torch design, official uniform, and relay’s emblem were also unveiled. The relay will involve an estimated 600 torchbearers and visit several celebration sites, marking the first time Canada has hosted a Paralympic Winter Games. As well, for the first time the Paralympic Torch Relay will have its own emblem — “Spark Becomes Flame” — which shows a human figure with its arms raised and joined, much like a candle’s flame.
